There’s a series of geometric linearity across Kutch—from clean-lined houses and their door frames to glyph-like patterns painted on a camel’s body. In contrast, the textiles and ornaments worn by its people or weaving through the plaits on young girls display a playful mix of vibrant hues. White clay from the banks of the Khari Nadi juxtaposes the stark purity of the White Desert Of Kutch against celebratory tones of the region in ‘The Hut’, its three-faced rigid body softened with a braided crimson cotton rope sinuously draped around it.

Care: Wipe with soft dry cloth. Don’t use chemical and wet cloth.

Timeline: Each piece is a testament to slowmade craft, requiring eight to ten days to mould, bake and weave; and is dependent on favourable weather in Kutch, as drying the clay under direct sunlight or a fan leaves it prone to cracks. Thread is braided by women of the family
